Pilling Jubilee Silver Band

October News

The band's outings recently have been varied in both type and location.

Our first event really was a first when we were pleased to play for the guests at the wedding of Samantha Thornton of the Pickerings Hotel Garstang. I may be wrong, but I don't remember the band doing this sort of thing before. It was a glorious afternoon and the setting in the garden of the Pickerings was just right, as were the sandwiches and free bar! A big thank you to the Thornton family for that one.

Following that were three "Last Night of the Proms" concerts where the audience are invited to join in the usual patriotic songs which feature at the Royal Albert Hall at this time of year. The first was at the North Shore Methodist Church in Blackpool, the second (in the same week) was at the Platform in Morecambe and the third on 16th Sept was organised by the ladies of Pilling WI at the Memorial Hall Pilling. All were very well received and are becoming annual events.

On Saturday 10th Sept a former member of the band, Colin Tarry married a good friend of the band (and player in the Longridge band) Hayley Barker. We were all invited to the evening reception at Springfield House Pilling where many people from the banding fraternity gathered. It was good to see our former conductor Brian Harper and his wife Carol (another former Pilling band member) looking fit and well. Our own Jen Ormrod and Keri Waterhouse entertained us with their special version of Riverdance!

The big news of our next event is that of our "Round the World" concert at the Parish Hall Preesall on Saturday 22nd October starting at 7:30 pm. This will be a very special affair featuring a number of countries and the music associated with them. Though still in the planning stage, we hope to stage a themed event with the audience seated round tables with flags, maybe a quiz, lucky numbers and a good raffle. The band may even wear a few fancy hats! Jack Benson has kindly agreed to compère the show in his usual humorous fashion. Tickets are £5.00 and are available from TIC Redman's Knott End or from any band member. It will also be fine to pay at the door on the night.

That concludes this month's epistle, our usual open invitation is extended to anyone interested in having a blow, or simply coming down to a rehearsal. We meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Field House Lane Pilling at 8:00 pm.
